Kaneka obtains technology license using phosphorescent materials License agreement concluded with Universal Display Corporation

Kaneka Corporation (Osaka, Japan; President: Kimikazu Sugawara) concluded a non-exclusive comprehensive license agreement with Universal Display Corporation (New Jersey, USA; President & CEO: Steven V. Abramson; hereinafter referred to as “UDC”) concerning OLED devices technology that uses phosphorescent materials*1 .

We have been developing high luminous efficacy*2 OLED panels with phosphorescent materials by combining with our own fluorescent OLED devices technology. Kaneka will aggressively explore the new lighting opportunities with the high luminous efficacy OLED panels in Japan, Europe and US in order to expand our OLED lighting business.

  1. Phosphorescent material scientifically performs 4X luminous efficacy of fluorescent material.
  2. Luminous efficacy is a measure of how much light a light source produces with a certain amount of energy. It is expressed in lm/W.
