Notice Regarding the Jury Decision on the Patent Infringement Lawsuit Related to Polyimide Film Products Against the companies in South Korea and the United States

KANEKA CORPORATION
November 30, 2015
Kaneka Corporation (Osaka, Japan; President: Mamoru Kadokura) was involved in a lawsuit against SKC Kolon PI, Inc. (hereafter, SKPI) in South Korea and SKC, Inc. in the United States regarding patent infringements on U.S. Patent No.s 5,075,064 and 7,691,961 regarding the polyimide film owned by our company. On November 19, 2015 (US Pacific Standard Time), the jury at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California found in favor of our claims.

At this jury trial, Kaneka attempted to demonstrate indirect infringement by SKPI, direct infringement by U.S. SKC, and that we suffered damages through these infringement actions; the jury determined that Kaneka demonstrated this sufficiently. We believe that the full and complete acknowledgement of our claim will have a major impact on the global expansion of our Apical® polyimide film business. Kaneka shall further strengthen our intellectual property strategies through strong promotion of R&D both domestically and internationally.
