Kaneka concludes a Partnership Agreement with Saitama City on Co-creation and Promotion with a view to creating a Zero Carbon City

Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Minoru Tanaka) concluded a partnership agreement with Saitama City on promoting a sustainable society with a view to creating a Zero Carbon City on 6th October.

As one of the ‘Decarbonization Leading Regions’ selected by the government, Saitama City is working on local development to improve the attractiveness and quality of the region by realizing a ‘Green Co-creation Model by Public, Private and Academic Initiatives from Saitama’. Kaneka supports the activities of Saitama City, and in addition to providing photovoltaic modules and highly insulated housings *1, we are cooperating in
environmental education and other activities using the 100% plant-based Kaneka Biodegradable Polymer Green PlanetTM (hereafter Green Planet) which has superior biodegradability in a wide range of environments.

In the future, together with Saitama City, we will work and collaborate with each other in the fields of the environment and energy, and through the promotion of ‘co-creation’ – thinking and creating together – we will effectively and continuously promote measures to utilize renewable energy as well as to promote resource and economic recycling, with the aim of realizing a decarbonized, recycle-oriented society and strengthening resilience.

(1) Issues pertaining to the promotion of local production for local consumption for energy
(2) Issues pertaining to the construction of a regional recycling symbiotic urban energy model
(3) Issues pertaining to the promotion of local decarbonization
(4) Issues pertaining to the formation of a recycle-oriented society
(5) Issues pertaining to the promotion of environmental education, enlightenment and popularization
(6) Issues pertaining to the promotion of integrated environmental, economic and social initiatives which provide the trigger to achieve a local circulation and symbiosis based on the above.

4.  Specific Initiatives
(1) Promotion of initiatives with a view to achieving a pioneering de-carbonization area
(2) Popularization and promotion of ZEH (Zero Energy Housing) and LCCM (Life Cycle Carbon Minus) Housing
(3) Investigation of environmental learning menu using Green Planet, etc.
(4) Cooperation with a view to making good use of next-generation technology and innovation

Kaneka has manifested its approval of the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)*2 proposal and will work even harder on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 using Kaneka’s technology and products in co-creation with Saitama City.
