Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Minoru Tanaka) is proud to announce that Kaneka Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ (referred to below as “Green Planet”) has been selected by Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuji Akasaka) for its shopping bags. Shopping bags made with Green Planet will be used for in-flight sales on domestic and international flights from late November.

In order to leave a more beautiful planet to future generations, by fiscal year 2025, the JAL Group aims to totally eliminate the use of primary petroleum-derived plastics from the disposable plastics provided in their cabins and lounges. As part of this initiative, they have decided to use Green Planet, the 100% plant-derived biodegradable polymer from Kaneka, for its shopping bags.
Green Planet shopping bags were introduced in the 71 BLUE SKY stores operated by JAL Group company JALUX (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Satoru Takahama) in 24 airports nationwide (as of October 31, 2022). From November, JALUX will further promote the switch to Green Planet shopping bags of various sizes.

Green Planet is a 100% plant-derived biodegradable polymer developed by Kaneka with a desire to provide environmentally friendly solutions that are not dependent on petroleum resources. It is exceptionally biodegradable in a wide range of environments and breaks down easily into CO2 and water in both soil and seawater, helping to solve the problem of plastic pollution.

Based on our mission of "KANEKA thinks 'Wellness First'.", Kaneka will continue to provide solutions for global issues.
Kaneka will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the JAL Group and bring about a sustainable society by promoting the use of Green Planet.
