Kaneka Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ Spoon and Fork Commercialized as Part of FamilyMart’s "Convenience Wear BLUE GREEN" Project

Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Minoru Tanaka) has announced that Kaneka Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ (“Green Planet”) has been commercialized by FamilyMart Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kensuke Hosomi) as “Spoons 8pcs.” and “Forks 8pcs.” for the "Convenience Wear BLUE GREEN" project*1. The products will be available at approximately 16,500 FamilyMart stores nationwide from February 28*2.February 22, 2023
Green Planet is a 100% plant-derived biodegradable polymer developed by Kaneka as an alternative to single-use plastics. It does not depend on petroleum resources and is easily decomposed into CO2 and water in a wide range of natural environments, thus contributing to solving the problem of plastic pollution.
FamilyMart is working to reduce plastic usage and switch to environmentally friendly materials. To date, it has highly praised Green Planet for its contribution to reducing environmental impact and has been expanding the distribution of Green Planet straws and cutleries in its stores. For its "Convenience Wear BLUE GREEN" project, as a FamilyMart original sustainable product, it has adopted Green Planet cutlery in four pleasant colors, designed to make customers using it repeatedly. The cutlery is also colored with natural pigments.
Based on our mission of "KANEKA thinks 'Wellness First'.", Kaneka will continue to provide solutions for global issues. We will keep strengthening our partnership with FamilyMart and aim to realize a sustainable society through the active use of Green Planet.

In December 2022, under the supervision of fashion designer Hiromichi Ochiai, the project was launched with the idea of "doing what we can do, little by little, that is good and useful for the global environment.” The project is named "BLUE GREEN" because blue and green, the corporate colors of FamilyMart, represent the Earth (ocean and forest). Various initiatives are being implemented with regard to the global environment.
