Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Minoru Tanaka), in cooperation with West Japan Railway Hotel Development, Ltd. (Location: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto; President: Masafumi Ise; hereinafter “JR-West Hotels”), has launched a resource recycling initiative using waste cooking oil from facilities operated by JR-West Hotels.

KANEKA biodegradable polymer Green Planet™ (“Green Planet”) is a biodegradable polymer developed by Kaneka based on our desire to provide environmentally friendly solutions that do not depend on petroleum resources. Normally, Green Planet is produced from vegetable oil, but we have established a technology to produce it from waste cooking oil after considering a variety of raw materials.
The resource recycling will be realized by this technology to collect waste cooking oil from JR-West Hotels operated facilities and use it as the raw material to produce Green Planet which will be returned to each facility.

The project will begin in April 2023 by providing Green Planet straws which are made from waste cooking oil released from Hotel Granvia Kyoto, the flagship hotel of JR-West Hotels. From then on, we will expand target facilities and applications according to the plan and broaden the resource recycling activities further.
