Tully’s Coffee Introduces a Film-Based Cup Holder Made with Green Planet™

Tully’s Coffee Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Shuji Uchiyama; hereinafter “Tully’s Coffee”) will introduce a new service aimed at improving customer convenience for takeaway beverage orders. As part of this initiative, the company will roll out a cup holder made from biomass-based film, marking such the first initiative in the café chain industry. The product is made using KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ (hereinafter “Green Planet”), a biodegradable polymer produced entirely from biomass.
■Proposing a new, hands-free takeaway style
This cup holder is inspired by popular designs found in places like Taiwan and Vietnam, but has been adapted and improved specifically for customers in Japan, with an emphasis on convenience. By keeping hands free, customers can carry their drinks with ease and enjoy them at their own pace, making it a smart and comfortable solution for travel and other situations involving bulky luggage, including airports. As takeaway coffee culture becomes more common, Tully’s Coffee is introducing this new style of takeaway to blend smoothly into modern everyday life.
Stores scheduled to begin offering the cup holder on February 24:

*The cup holder is scheduled to be introduced sequentially at Tully’s Coffee stores nationwide from April onward. Please note that some stores may not offer this service.
■About KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™
Kaneka and JALUX are working to reduce environmental impact through the development of new products using Green Planet and by expanding its adoption. Green Planet is a 100% biomass-derived biodegradable polymer produced by a microorganism fermentation process using plant oils and other biomass materials as primary raw materials. It decomposes into CO₂ and water by microorganisms, not only in soil but also in seawater (*2), thereby helping to reduce the risk of environmental pollution caused by plastic waste. Green Planet has obtained the “OK Biodegradable MARINE” certification (*3), which certifies its biodegradability in marine environments.
Because Green Planet can be processed in the same way as general-purpose plastics, it is being adopted across a wide range of applications as an innovative solution. These include straws, cutlery, shopping bags, food packaging films, reusable tableware, and many other products, and its use continues to expand across diverse fields.
