Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Minoru Tanaka), in collaboration with ARROWS Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Haruki Asatani) *1, has created an environmental education program*2 for fifth- and sixth-grade students, which is now available at elementary schools in Japan. Going forward, we will work with schools and teachers who are actively engaged in environmental activities to promote understanding of the environment using this program.

A challenge that elementary schools are facing with environmental education is that although there are many teaching materials that emphasize the importance of nature, only a few of them encourage students to think independently about the environment. It is necessary to raise their awareness to take ownership of the environmental problem. To solve these issues, we have created a unique environmental education program using KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green PlanetTM ("Green Planet"), which contributes to solving plastic pollution. More than 8,000 students, more than expected, have already learned from this program*3.

Based on our mission of "KANEKA thinks 'Wellness First'.", Kaneka will continue to provide solutions for global issues. Green Planet is a material developed by Kaneka that is 100% biomass-derived and biodegradable into CO2 and water in a wide range of natural environments. Through Green Planet, we will continue to work on solving various environmental issues such as marine pollution caused by plastics and reducing CO2 emissions, as well as raising children's awareness of environmental issues from an educational perspective and creating opportunities for them to take the initiative in leading sustainable living.

*2. This educational material is designed for students to learn about the environmental pollution and how it is affected by plastics, which are indispensable for daily life. It also helps students to imagine the future, and to ask themselves, "Which should be prioritized, a convenient lifestyle using plastics or environmental protection?” The program encourages students to change their behavior by learning about various environmental conservation activities and Green Planet, a new material that can replace plastics, and by taking specific actions themselves.
