Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhiko Fujii) announces that biodegradable artificial turf made with KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™, jointly developed with Mizuno Corporation (Headquarters: Osaka; President: Akito Mizuno; hereinafter “Mizuno”), has been adopted for the warning zone at Vantelin Dome Nagoya. This marks the world’s first use of biodegradable artificial turf made with Green Planet in this application (*1).

Green Planet is a 100% biomass-derived biodegradable polymer developed by Kaneka based on our desire to provide environmentally friendly solutions that do not depend on petroleum resources. Due to its biodegradability into CO2 and water by microorganisms living in soil and seawater, it can contribute to solving the problem of marine plastic pollution.

Artificial turf can break down into fragments that can unintentionally flow into the ocean and become microplastics, harming marine ecosystems. This is a growing concern. To address this issue, Kaneka worked with Mizuno, which has extensive technical expertise in artificial turf, to jointly develop biodegradable artificial turf for indoor sports in June 2025 (*2).
This product offers a texture similar to that of conventional artificial turf while maintaining high durability. More than 90% of the resin used in the turf blades is derived from biomass, enabling a reduction in CO emissions compared with petroleum-based artificial turf.

In the renovation of Vantelin Dome Nagoya, the home stadium of the Chunichi Dragons, Nagoya Dome Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nagoya; President: Uichiro Oshima) has decided to adopt Mizuno’s artificial turf made with Green Planet for the stadium’s warning zone. In addition to its biodegradability and biomass-based characteristics, the product was highly evaluated for its safety for play, durability, and cushioning performance.

Based on our mission of KANEKA thinks “Wellness First”, Kaneka provides value globally as a solution provider. Based on the development of technologies and applications using our proprietary polymer technology and biotechnology, we will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by promoting Green Planet on a global scale.
